Go to http://www.virtualbox.org/.
Select ‘Download’ from the list on the left.
For Windows 7 as host Operating System select the link ‘x86/ad64’ behind the text ‘VirtualBox 3.2.4 for Windows hosts’. Probably you will see a higher version; I noticed that Oracle / Sun releases new versions quite often.
Run the file or if you prefer you can save the file and than run it from the place you downloaded the executable to. This will start the installation of VirtualBox.
Just press Next> on the Welcome screen of the Setup Wizard.
Please read the license agreement carefully and select ‘I Accept the terms in the License Agreement’ and just press Next>.
If you feel the urge to change the location VirtualBox will be stored on your harddisk, here you have the possibility to change it. I accepted the defaults by just clicking Next>.
Select whether you want a shortcut to startup VirtualBox from your desktop or from the Quick Launch Bar (or both) and then click Next>.
Notice the warning about interuption / reset of your network connection and press Yes to proceed.
Click Install to start the installation.
Windows 7 may popup with the question ’Do you allow the following program to install software on this computer’ (program 63b4e0.msi from Sun Microsystems, Inc). If you trust it then press Yes.
A status bar shows the progress.
At the end of the installation process the wizard asked me 4 times if I like to install this device software:
- Sun Microsystems, Inc. Universal Serial ....
- Sun Microsystems, Inc. Network service
- Sun Microsystems, Inc. Network adapters
- Sun Microsystems, Inc. Network adapters
I Installed them all (click the Install button)
Finally a screen pops up with 'Click the Finish button to exit the Setup Wizard.' It is possible to start Oracle VM VirtualBox after installation.
